How it plays. Each Lightning Link title is its own 5x3 game sharing one jackpot system. Six or more of the special bonus symbol (pearls in Magic Pearl, for example) start Hold & Spin: those symbols lock, you get three respins, and each new symbol resets the count to three. More on how it plays

How Lightning Link plays
How it plays
When the respins run out you collect every value and jackpot label on screen, and a full screen of 15 wins the Grand. Each theme also has its own free-games twist, such as door reveals, multiplying symbols, removal of low symbols, a giant centre symbol or expanding wilds, and Hold & Spin can trigger inside free games.
Features
- Hold & Spin with resetting three-spin counter
- Shared Mini/Minor/Major/Grand jackpot system across themes
- Theme-specific free games (6 to 10 spins depending on title)

Tips from players and reviewers
- A review site reports that every bet level can win all four jackpots in Hold & Spin, so a minimum bet keeps the Grand in play. The cash values on the bonus symbols scale with your bet.
- Higher denominations carry bigger fixed Mini/Minor amounts and bigger Major/Grand meters; compare the meters on banks of different denominations.
- Pick the theme by free-game style: door-reveal and giant-symbol versions tend to swing more than ones that remove low symbols.
- Lightning Cash machines look similar but use standalone jackpots instead of a bank-wide link.
Tips can't change the odds of any spin. They help you pick a bet level and a machine.
Industry standing and land-casino jackpots
Lightning Link introduced the Hold & Spin format that now dominates slot floors, displaced Buffalo at the top of the charts in the late 2010s, and was still counted among Aristocrat's dominant premium titles in 2025. Aristocrat launched a tenth-anniversary 'Lightning 10 Year Storm' family in 2026 that charted among the top new premium games.
Why it's popular
- Aristocrat reported record Lightning Link sales in Australia and a recent US launch (Jan 2016)
- Lightning Link and Dragon Link displaced Buffalo from the top spot on US charts (2018)
- Named with Dollar Storm among dominant premium titles when Aristocrat held 8 of the top 10 premium reel spots (March 2025 Eilers survey)
- Lightning 10 Year Storm was one of three new Aristocrat families holding 9 of the top 12 New Premium Leased & WAP ranks (Eilers-Fantini, April 2026, public summary)
- 16 versions (12 in the US) after ten years on floors (Oct 2025)
